House2Home

Creating a quick and easy solution for home decor.

UX Designer

Overview

This project was a submission for a UX challenge, for which I designed a solution for a fictitious interior design app House2Home.

Problem

House2Home is a new startup that wants to help people decorate their new homes and apartments.

Through customer surveys, House2Home has found that many of their customers have just moved in to a new home or apartment. These users want to buy multiple items to personalize their new place - but, they don't feel confident doing it on their own.

The goal was to help people find a great "starter kit" of items to instantly decorate their new place.

Journey Map

I created a journey map based on the needs, goals, and frustrations highlighted in user interviews and the persona. This allowed me to pinpoint the key points of the user’s process of finding suitable decorations for their new home.

Sketch

After identifying the essential features the app needed for an MVP, I sketched out the three primary screens in the user flow to get a better idea of the layout and feel of each screen.

Solution

Highlights

When buying decorative accessories for an apartment, the users main concerns are the aesthetic style, their budget, and pairing of items. This simple yet informative screen addresses all 3 of those issues:

Next Steps

If I were tasked with designing this as a real product, here are the next steps I would explore:

  1. Usability testing to make sure the user flow works as intended and identify new issues.
  2. Adding an AR feature that could capture the feel of the user’s apartment using the phone camera and recommend starter kits based on that.
  3. Design the complete checkout process for the app.
